Department of Philosophy
About
The Department of Philosophy was established in the year 2001 at Jonai Girls' College and affiliated under Dibrugarh University in year 2006. The philosophy department introduces major/honours course from the year 2006 and granted subject concurrence by Director of Higher Education in 2009. The philosophy department has total the 3(three) nos of faculty members out of which only 1(one) faculty member post is provincialised and the rest 2(two) nos of faculties are still to be provincialised. The department has 55 nos intact seats capacity. The departmental library of Philosophy department is enriched with around 112 nos of text-books .
Course Outcomes :
The Department runs an undergraduate course in Philosophy under the Choice Based Credit System(CBCS) as per the syllabus mandated by the affiliating Dibrugarh University. Generally the students those who intend pursue honours in Philosophy will be able to acquire knowledge that is vital to the discipline of Philosophy, beside they can acquire knowledge of core concepts, argumentative techniques, logic, ethics, religions, social and political philosophy, analytic philosophy and psychology etc.
The students philosophy will very profound and enabled themselves with reflective awareness about the world and understanding to reality as discussed in Indian and western traditions as well as to equipped themselves with a comprehensive world view.
Philosophy should be studied because it is essential to individuals and to society. Some of the main outcome are
1. The study of Philosophy create creative mind in social and political philosophy.
2. The study of Philosophy enables the students in problem solving arguing, reasoning, critical thinking etc.
3. The study of philosophy will give exposures to study about Greek, Medieval, Modern and Western Philosophy at the same time to it give opportunity to study various religions of the world.
