About

The Economics department imparted general course from the time of college establishment in the year 1994. The department got its permanent affiliation in the year 2009, moreover, in the year 2009-10 the department has got its university permission to offer major/ honours course in undergraduate B.A. Programme under the affiliating university. At present the department has 30(thirty) numbers of student intake capacities in major /honours course. The department has 3(three) no’s of full time faculty members with an enriched departmental library. The department organizes departmental seminars, workshops, field study and educational tours regularly for its students. Students are always encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities like sports, cultural activities, creative works and extensional activities etc. The students published a departmental wall magazine entitled “PROGYAN” annually under supervision of their departmental teachers. A good numbers of departmental alumni pursued higher education in different universities /higher institutions despite many of them are now placed in various govt. and non govt. organizations.

Outcomes of the Department of Economics

According to Paul Samualson ”Economics is a living and evolving subject”. It helps to logically analyse a wide variety issues people face in their everyday life. The analytical techniques used in the discipline help to improve communication and numerical ability, skills of abstraction, skills of logical deduction and critical thinking ability of the student studying economics provide insights in to the resource allocation decisions, opportunity cost and trade-offs, demand in public policy, foreign trade competition. Moreover the discipline provides the knowledge about environmental problems with economic problem solving outlook too.

We can make a short list of outcomes of the discipline as follows-
1. Develop the ability to explain core economic terms, concept and theories for intellectual growth by applying the concept of equilibrium to both “Micro and Macro” economics, by identifying major types of market failure, by identifying the macroeconomic indicators and measures of economic change, growth and development.
2. Demonstrate awareness of global, historical and international forces.
3. Apply economic theories and concepts to contemporary social issues, as well as formulation and analysis policy.
4. Recognize the role of ethical values in economic decisions.
5. Demonstrate the ability to collect process and interpret data including statistical inference.
6. Student will be able to use critical thinking skills within the discipline of economics about economic matters.
7. Students will be able to apply both oral and written communication skill within the discipline.
8. Students will be able to achieve careers in “Banking, Finance, Business, Industry and Commerce, Government and public policy etc.

Besides regular classroom teaching, the college authority and we, the Faculty of Department of Economics always try to makes sorcerer effort to make the students as skilled human resource for future by organizing Educational tour, Seminars, Workshop field Study etc.
